Bobby Fischer beat the Russians when beating the Russians was a big deal. He was young and sort of good looking in a geek sort of way and he beat Boris Spassky in 1972, was there ever a better name for a Russian bad guy.
He won then quit. Just quit, became a strange recluse. Raving anti-semitic, making no sense. Wanted by the government--our government. He died tonight.
